People are increasing selling forum signature links for traffic and even PR apparently and I've found a cool tool where you can calculate the possible value of a forum signature link (http://directory.celebritycontest.net/link-price?hod=9b717ebda2df8c71ee5a5e6b395e66c2&rr=ab7c37787078a3f03138b3aea080e3d2&url=forums.digital-m.co.za&what=both&where=page&type=text&related=1).

According to the calculator a link here would be worth 11 dollars a month. I think that's probably a little on the high side. Anyway I don't think it's cool selling forum signatures, goes against the spirit of forum participation in my view but if anyone has a favourite forum I'd be interested if you ran the tool and put a monthly price here.

Some are renting forum sig links at 5$/month... now here that's not even a pack of cigarets... and you get less than 5$ since paypal or whatever takes a %... must be starved to waste time for about 13 cigarets/month.

Thats a great tool, however i agree with you, there is a line between social community interaction and getting paid to do it

Some people are selling links at DP for $30 a month and you can have up to 4 links in your signature there. There are even people selling their avatars...

Actually DP sig links would certainly drive traffic because of the massive number of visitors they get... I'm thinking about buying one to advertise this forum..... so that kind of makes me a hypocrite.... LOL

Ah thanks Joc! That means we've got exposure at seochat (Chatmaster) and DP... we get a lot of referrals from SEO Chat but Chatmaster's a prolific poster, be interesting to see how many DP referrals we get.... we'll keep you posted!

Yeah, ive been offered rent for my forum space and sig on DP for a while now. I all politely turn them down, mainly because you can't receive paypal payments here.

I was actually thinking of getting my sister in the UK to open up an account for me. She'd get a 'handlers' fee, etc of course - however she wasn't interested (guess I'll try my brother-in-law next, lol).
