Everyone always says you get the most conversions on position 1 on PPC engines. I have found this not to be the case. For some reason I get the most conversions on position 3 or 4. Is this normal? The problem with being number 3 ot 4 is that I don't spend enough!! I have a huge PPC budget and would love to increase my spend (with corresponding conversions of course :D ) but cannot seem to spend more!!! Please help!!!

Hi,

the problem with being number one is that sometimes you can get a large number of random clicks that don't convert very well - but there's some debate about that at the moment because with the advent of geo-targeting, time of day... and with Google offering a price that varies with CTR, the dynamic is becoming very complex.

Having a big budget can help because you're less likely to get clipped before all your keywords are rotated, but you can save money by targeting special keyword combinations that will convert better.

Try bidding for more niche searches and on second place and see what happens!

Cheers,
Paz.

hi Clickz

i have also had much better results on positions 2-5 in terms of clickthrough ratio's.

I guess it all depends on the product or service you are selling. I have heard some stats that indicate that if a buyer is looking for a high value item, they will view 6 sites to compare on average.

If its a low budget sale, i guess the first one or two will do. ( maybe in the case of cheap hotels).

Let me know how you get on,

Daniel
