Is SMO all about Digg,Reddit ect. or is there actually more to it than just submitting articles to social communities?

Well SMO is interlinked with link baiting. The focus is on providing excellent content or something new that will please visitors and encourage them to "spread the word", link to you.

SMO is about making the content easier to get onto Reddit, Digg, etc. For example, adding "Submit to Digg!" buttons. However, Rand Fishkin over at SEOmoz prefers to call it Social Media Marketing because he takes it further by trying to get content that will do well on the appropriate sites. They have a very high success rate (something like 70%) with getting stuff onto the front page

Yes, making the content easier to get onto Reddit, Digg, etc is part of it but its not the be all and end all, you need the kind of content they folks will want to digg.

Theres lots of forms of SMO

Basically you have to have killer content for sites like digg and reddit or you arent going to get anywhere, this can come coupled with a good title and a great description, make use of what you can

You can also use video in effect on sites like youtube and ifilm to drive traffic to websites
