Hey do you guys have a list of SA search engines?

So far I have been able to find

www.funnel.co.za
www.ananzi.co.za
www.aardvark.co.za
and two others that I have forgotten the name of :-?

But I found one the other day that I think started with oc..... which was very nicely done but now I have lost the link....

How many do we have?

I would tend to stick with Ananzi, although they took the opposite route of google and decided to sell advertising for each and EVERY pixel on their website, they have lost a lot of credibility in doing this.

Oh, and of course, google.co.za

Okay I was smoking my socks :)

The new search engine I found is www.jonga.co.za

Seems very very nice in my opinion

Here we go:

Findelio (http://za.findelio.com/)
ISeek (http://ww9.iseek.co.za/)

and MSN SA

ISeek has my site but when I searched it came up first just under an ad for (Penis Enlargement & Sexual Enhancement)... Not cool....

And listed on Findelio as well...

I seem to be quite sorted at least on the listing side now, actually had someone find me through ananzi yesterday when they searched for "meeting people with kids" which I am chuffed about. That is what the boss wants to site for...

We should maybe compile a large list of SA search engines, it'd might make some decent linkbait for South African sites...

Beaten to the post by the pieman :)

A full and detailed list of all SA search engines and directories would be very helpful. Also rate them.

ISeek 1/10
Funnel 7/10 ....

Shall we put a poll live for each of them? In that way they will each get a seperate review? And then list them according to a point out of 10?

That could work :) But what criteria should we use in the ranking?

GavinMannion

Are the results appropriate to the search term... (Still upset about my results from ISeek for my website :) )

Speed, amount of results, relevance, ease of use, look of site, features?

Hi Guys,

I noticed that www.iseek.co.za removed ads from their search results. Maybe the "penis enlargement" thing turned out to be a good thing (for us) I hate results tainted with adverts.

One thing I don't see on iseek.co.za is an Add URL link ? How do I go about listing on there ?

Hi Neo,

Welcome to the forum!

I can't find a submit link either. I would try posting a link in one of their classified sections; they must spider their own links. I wouldn't spam them. I'm sure you can find somewhere you can join and advertise your services without being spammy.

Cheers,
Paz.

Hi Neo!

Great having you here, from Pretoria! I loooove that city! Will hopefully move back there soon. :)

Well, they must have their own spider. They even have pages from this forum spidered. http://za.iseek.co.za/index.php?REQ=digital-m.co.za&Submit=Submit
Go to page 2.

Hey megri, the site looks like it's coming along fine :) I see it's not a pay site too.

It got me thinking about what currencies to charge on an SA site. I mean, most SEO firms, even SA ones, will have dollar budgets and expect to see dollar prices, but if the directory was focused on SA sites, surely you should offer Rand prices? You probably wouldn't get the same amount of money per link ($5 is more than 50 Rands, for example) but it would help brand the site as "South African"...

Hi Megir,

Looks pretty good. There aren't that many SEO friendly SA directories so you've fond a nice little niche there.

I'd add an inexpensive paypal option for people who can't do recips. You can reinvest the money buying higher PR links.

I tend to stick Anancy, but took the opposite route and decided to Google to sell advertising for each pixel of your site, who have lost their credibility, so that way.
