Now that Google has removed the label from supplemental results (making it more difficult to find them), as apparently people are fixating on them too much (that's right, try and put the blame on us), I was thinking about what they could do to really shake things up.

Personally, i think that if they had to stop showing PR (which really is something that people are too fixated on) then they'd throw the majority of SEOers into a major panic - directories, link-selling sites (eg TLA), etc all involve the little green bar as a metric.

what do you guys think?

They won't take that out cause people would all remove their google taskbar... and they want you to use it.

Actually they did take PR down for a while once; not sure if it was deliberate or an accident. They soon put it back up after I made this impassioned plea;

PR is like PH (Paris Hilton).....

* PH serves no real purpose ...
* PH has inspired a cult following that baffles most people...
* PH is widely discussed, but not very well understood...
* PH is BIG money though she sees little of it...

I'm sure most people agree - but the world would be less interesting without PH (and PR)..

Cheers,
Paz.

Theres actually something on search engine roundtable about people requesting for it to be removed

I would prefer if it didnt exist

That's a good point, but there are other extensions that also show PR, such as Quirk's Search Status toolbar.

I have to disagree. I wouldn't in a public forum, but this is very much a private forum and we're all friends here!

As Joc said; Google have a toolbar; they also have a patent. We have clients who spend millions on PPC via Google. They're also looking at SEO, and have PR toolbars installed. If they can't trust their Google toolbars how can they trust their other Google; PPC metrics?

I just love that!

I remember getting into a discussion elsewhere where I commented on the fact that Google enjoys so much discussion as compared to other search engines.

My comment was the reason is they dominate search engine traffic. But one wag suggested it was because of PR. And that might not be that far off the mark.

It is an indicator of sorts I suppose, but it's an absolutely brilliant marketing tool... for Google!
