Adwords? What are they and how they work?

Hi all,

I had the arbest thing happen today.. i mentioned SEO Optimization to a client today and they said they pay for adwords?

Please explain this?

Easy... since they can't rank, they pay adwords to get traffic from paid ads.

So its the Sponsored area on a search? If so why? Why not just SEO the site? why would one go for Adwords?

Yeah the nice thing about Adwords is that you can rank #1 in Google within a few minutes (as a sponsored site) if you pay enough money - no matter how bad your client's site is. Most studies I've seen have suggested that SEO provides better long term ROI. Also I'm increasingly convinced that people are ignoring the Adwords/sponsored links and they're getting more expensive too.

The problem with SEO is that you usually have to work on your site and build up your backlinks. That can take months.

That means with SEO, no matter how great your site is it can take a long time to rank in Google so your clients will feel like they are paying money for nothing in the first few months.

I think the best is to combine both. Run an Adwords campaign when you launch a site, but run an SEO campaign in parallel. When SEO rankings improve you can cut back on your Adwords budget.

So SEO is the better way to go and rather combine them for the first couple of months till google spiders it properly and then start to drop adwords.

Personally i never use sponsored links... as in i never click on them myself.
