I run a website that has no age limit on its signups - the site has a very large userbase, and about 10% of its users are under 18

We are planning to make the site only available for 18 and older so that we can show adult ads..but would we have to make the site 21 and older to show people in the US adult ads? :o

And how could we sort out the situation..as we would still have members who were underage ..would we have to delete them all

Thanks in advance

Hi,

I wouldn't go down the adult ad route with that sort of membership demographic to be honest, it could be trouble for you later.

What you could do is make some forums private or restricted to a particular membership group and display your ads there. The membership restrictions come with the forum software but you'd have to code the way your ads are handled yourself I suspect.

Cheers,
Paz.

Well, you'd have to have a disclaimer that states you must be of the appropriate age depending where you live if you wanted to access the sites with the adult content. Some states have different age restrictions.

But yeah, I'd also try and avoid the adult ads if at all possible. I know of sites that have had ISPs blacklist them because of the naughty ads they displayed - a lot of the bigger ISPs in the States have the nanny-patrols who blacklist naughty sites when some little old granny protests at a bit of nipple :p
