OK, imagine you have an alternative health, DMOZ listed site with a solid PR5 resources page and you get an offer of a link exchange with an agricultural PR0 site with the link text:

Website Description: Resource for Anise, Aniseed, Aniseeds, Anise seeds, anise seed, Aniseed balls, Anise Tea, Anise Oil, Star Anise, anise star tamiflu, nature herb, herbs and spice, Fennel, Parsley, Licorice, healthy digestion, Digestive aid, Flatulence, Colic, fruit tree, fruit recipe, Plant, Recipes, Biscotti, Springerle, absinthe recipe, absinthe drink, Root beer, Pimpinella Anisum.

Imagine you are the webmaster. Would you:

a) Accept the link exchange as is and without question.
b) Accept the link exchange and write back to ask them for their SEO rates.
c) Write back to them explaining the difference between a site's text description and its list of keywords.
d) Other.....

I submitted a site to zeen.com and I get one of these emails daily....

I'd go D for Delete button... I do that a lot for poker exchanges... I just don't waste time writing to give them hints on how to have a more successfull link exchange campain... like offer a cached page... they can read the forums like I did.

I would not use the description for sure, a list of keywords... make my site look lame...

If you have a link page on the site, it's like saying you wanna have exchanges... the sites I have a link page on I get emails for... the sites that have no link page on I get no emails.

Same here. I go for delete. On the casino and poker side I also receive a load of these mails everyday. I have been doing fine with my selective link techniques so far and really do not have time for any reply's and explinations to get linkbuilders to fix their automated mails.

As far as PR is concerned, it doesn't really matter to me what the PR is. Most important to me is the quality of the content and that the link is contextual, infact the newer the page the better.

As far as SEO business is concerned you might considder b as an option but who do you reply to? Not the link builder that contacted you, so would need to do research on ownership of the domain. But in my case I have a shortage of time so delete will be most suitable...

I'd delete the message too. There is no point in telling a spammer that they are being spammy... they're being spammy out of choice anyway

well, not really. I mean, you could ahve a links apge and state that you don't accept links requests and you only link out to the sites you want to. youd still get request emails :(
