Microsoft has made a proposal to buy Yahoo! A move that I have been expecting for a while now, seeing that they plan to make Live the default search engine for all new versions of Internet Explorer. why do they have the initiative to buy the second largest and popular SE?

It's part of their strategic plans to compete with Google.
