2000 banned IPs added to forum

Hi Guys,

In the neverending fight against forum spam I've added a list of spam IPs to the vBulletin software from here:
http://www.weasel.net/?page=IPBL

The forum now checks each post against 2000 IPs and this might make the forum run a little slower... LOL

A faster alternative would be to edit the forum software to look up to see if an IP is in a banned-ips.txt file, but that would be a lot of work for me, so can we see how things go on over the next few days and weeks?

Nice job paz! instead of having to open an txt file the whole time, why not put it in an array? however with 2000 IPs that can still be a bit slow (don't know how quickly PHP cycles through arrays) so perhaps a system where the IPs are stored in order in seperate files/arrays/whatever, eg ips within 1.1.x.x - 55.55.x.x are in one file, and the rest in another or whatever? Lol, this is off the top of my head so the idea is probably full of holes, but its worth thinking about esp if this list is gonna grow, then we'd need a scalable system

Paz, just a question, I am subscribed to all forums but only get notifications once a day, if there is new posts. Is there a way mods can get emailed the moment there is a new post?

I'll have a look now, but I don't think so. What I can do is add you to the list of people who get an email when a new member joins... it's as good as....

The intention is mainly to pickup on spam posts sooner, so if that is possible, great!

OK, tested this for multiple emails and it works.

Send me a PM with with the email you want to use and I'll add it to the list.

ah, not really. I'll just set up a new rule to move them to another folder :)
