Hi all...its been a while, i know :o

Been doing some reading and came across the term linkbait quite a few times...im sure you all heard about it before?

What is the buzz? From what I understand its a technique/strategy thats practised to bring traffic and links to your site as result of unique content. So meaning something that will create a hype or rather something users will speak about and share with fellow users? (Im sure you get the picture)

My question is where do you begin? how do you go about this method? Maybe look for press releases or articles relating to your industry and voice your opinion on your findings (adding some spice ofcourse). Break away from the norm...and make your article stand out!!!:o Get your readers coming back for more, make them wanna link to it...One read and they are "hooked" GET IT? Hooked = linkbait...ha ha (OOOOOh Kay THAT WAS LAME)

Moving along, let me know whats your views on this topic...

Hi (ry$$1e!!!

Great having you back! I was looking at your profile the other day and wondered what happened to you :)

Well it is not as simple as it might seem but link baiting comes in many forms. I will discuss a few simple ones, but depending on what market you are in, it can become very complicated.

Debates

For this example let's use the SEO market. Danny Sullivan had something going recently when it was discussed whether or not Cutts should be listed in Wikipedia. The discussion had alot of natural links to it, because the entire community was interested to see the outcome. You might be able to think of something more original to start a debate and not even keep your eye on the community to create a debate.

Viral Campaigns

Viral campaigns can work very well. I remember getting a video of Google that had a 1940's black and white look and feel about it. Or maybe something funny or maybe a realtime video discussing the threat AT&T are to the freedom on the internet in the states. There are many ways using viral techniques.

Free Ebook

this one seems logical but might be more difficult. I recently tested this with my article about online marketing management, but although I refered to the article in some busy forums, nothing notably happened. It seems nobody realy cared...

Contraversial Discussions

How about discussing how much better anthonycea is at SEO than RandFish, how is that for a blast from the past! lol

Hi Cry$$1e

Yeah linkbait's an interesting one. This guy's the master of linkbait controversy;
http://www.dvorak.org/blog/

Every now and again he posts an article like "Mac users are idiots" and everyone links back to him saying "what an idiot... have a look here" and his backlinks spike again.

The best positive linkbait for 2006 was the Seobook keyword research tool.. Everyone was buzzing about it.

Any more examples, anyone?

I might just take u up on that 1 ...;)

Hey Paz, now that you have mentioned the Seobook keyword research tool and like you said it being one of the positive linkbait for '06, has anyone else ever wanted to pull their hair out while using it? e.g. it comes up with a whole bunch of errors whenever you specify a UK search for any keyword...This happened to me on numerous occasions

Well after a few grey hairs i found that if u click on the "suggest" button 4 times it works!!!!

Please let me know if anyone experienced this before and why is it not fixed after all this time???? :-x

Cheers

wait, is that 4 times in quick succession or do you mean on the fourth reload?

as for linkbait, seomoz has had several good ones, like their article on seo factors.

A group of ppl who are great at linkbaiting are the group behind shelleytherepublican.com (they mix religion, politics and often gay-bashing: a potent mix for controversy and links). To me they are a parody as no one can be that insane, or close-minded

Well I usualy have to click the button then wait for the page to load... then repeat that 4 times

This would be on the 4th reload, also note to set back to UK or whichever Countries results you want as after every reload it sets back to USA-default. So untill this problem is fixed, this method works for me ;)

Most online marketers take mobile marketing for granted i have done snooping and it could be a great source to generate traffic to your site all most like email campaigns but mms version of it. Also depends on your target market though.

Yup... must be helping raise the number of page views... What a great idea, make tool the absolutely everyone has to use at all costs but make it flawed to help boost page impressions.

In order for the link feed to obtain contents or feature and note, or to be connected to the web sight in order to encourage other things, it is inside the web sight which is designed especially. As for mat Cutts with something original link feed " It defines; people' To catch, it is sufficiently interesting; s attention." Because the link feed is the actual place virus, when it is very powerful form of marketing, it is. In word frequently negative, there is the kind of implication which is denied.

It means to actualize something that by itself attract backlinks for your web page by accepting humans to allocution about it, discussing it on forums, blogging about it,posting it on del.icio.us/Furl/Digg and bond to it from their sites.

The term Linkbait is acclimated to call content on a website which is advised to accomplish incoming links from added sites.Linkbait is about a area of content placed on a web page - whether it's an article, blog post, picture, or any added area of cyberspace - that is advised for the specific ambition of acquisition links from as abounding altered sources as possible.

Link bait is content on your website to which added sites link because they wish to, not because you ask them to.Widgets actualize a link from the website that uses it back to the website that created it - and there's the link bait again.
