look at slide 17. 200+ 'signals' used in the ranking of a site, and 1000's of machines used to process a single query.

Hi,

it's always a god idea to go through these slides, read through these presentations etc.... you can usually find the tiniest little snippet or clue as to how Google works; and this is quite a big hint.

The question is which 200 factors are they taking into account... haha

My feeling is it mostly backlink related eg PR, relevance, achhor text, age (trustrank) and maybe a few on page factors such as <title> and of course site content.

200 factors though.... :google:

Cheers,
Paz.

Well, personally while im curious as to what the factors are, im more curious as to how they interact with each. I mean, each industry is different, so the thresholds for each factor (in relation to each other) must change as well. As for what the factors are... Well obviously they'll be backlink-related, seeing how that's Google's main area of focus for calculating SERPs. Strong one-way links are obviously best, esp when using a variety of anchor text surround by text (as it then looks natural). The speed of links gained in relation to how/where the links appear will also be a factor, as (for example) being listed in 300 directories isnt nearly as effective as being linked to from 300 active blogs, nor is 300 links a week going to be beneficial for a niche site (as, depending on the distribution of the links, Google may look at it as artifical link building) while it may be of more use for, say, a casino site.

Well i suppose that they aso have to throw a red herring into the mix, 200 factors is a lot, especially when you are trying to work out, in which order.

I tend to agree, its backlinks, maybe trustrank and one or two other factors. They may even be very small.
