Ok, not entirely sure where to put this, so if the mods want to move it, fine :)

Seems that many ppl just don't 'get' the way the net works. I mean, damn I remember when companies wanted you to sign a legal agreement with them before you linked to them XD (luckily they've all got clued up after everyone started dissing them, lol)

Anyone, now from good ol' texas (where else) there's some retard judge who's banned deep linking (good grief)

When will ppl learn...

Actually I'm sort of with the judge on this one.

If I make an MP3 site (say) and make money from banner advertising, then I want people to visit my pages, and not just download directly via a link from another site.

I don't think it's a ban on deep linking, it's more similar to bandwidth theft by hotlinking isn't it?

Well, no it's not. He wasn't linking to something like a picture. He was linking directly to the cast, so it opened up the appropriate program which started the stream.

I for one, am against this decision. If you're so worried about hotlinking, set up your htaccess file to ban it, simple as that.

What I don't like is when people who don't understand how the net works tries to make rules/laws that affect it. Luckily this is just some texas judge, so the effects won't be far-reaching
