From Matt Cutt's blog:

you can read more about it here:

Seems one of main reasons Google did it is to stop these "pranks", plus a lot of ppl thought that they had a direct hand in it, lol.
This has profound implications for clients actually.
Googlebombing gets a site ranking for a specific term even though it's not used on the website itself.
We sometimes have to do this for eCommerce clients because they are using lots of graphics and very little text content. I'd better go and do another ranking check.....

Well, I'm just wondering if the fix will affect everything, or just obvious attempts as googlebombing. I mean, http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep2.html still ranks #1 for 'click here', and that text doesn't appear on the page anywhere.
Yeah... but disney have lost their #1 ranking for under 18 (http://www.google.com/search?num=50&hl=en&q=under+18&btnG=Search).... They've definitely done something....

So traditional GB may be over, but what about this one http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=french+military+victories (makes me giggle especially in canada - click the first link - it's rather sneakily-good).. so if you have control over the page, you have chance...? It seems so..
Interesting L, but they seem to have fixed the problem now. When I checked yetserday it was showing the hilarious "do you mean defeat?" today it's working properly.
The sequence and timeline of these GBs being repaired suggests to me it must be a hand job; despite what Matt Cutts says.
