Whenever I start doing SEO work i find that I start coming up with computer game AI ideas. I mean, the other day I was looking at a page of SERPs and my thoughts drifted to how it was generated and suddenly I started coming up with ideas for the priorities-based AI system in games (where the AI-controlled unit will have certain priorities depending on its internal and external environments), where the units body had (for example) various 'health zones' (head, torso, legs, etc) and its priorities list was constantly being generated according to these factors and how they were influenced by (or influenced themselves) the external (eg enviromental) factors.
Another time I was reading various forum posts to do with adsense ideas and ideas for the A* (http://theory.stanford.edu/~amitp/GameProgramming/AStarComparison.html#S3) pathfinding (http://www.policyalmanac.org/games/aStarTutorial.htm) algo (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A%2A) used in games...
I wonder how many people have the same sort of thing happen to them, where they come up with (sometimes brilliant) ideas whilest working on completely unrelated tasks? I wonder if this is why Google has that rule where you work on pet projects for that allotted time per week?
