View Full Version : Google Spelling hints...
...has there ever been any study to see how many people actually click on the spelling hints on google?
For e.g. if you search for Search Engine Optimisation on Google, it asks if you meant Optimization
Which surely loses the sites at the top for our normal spelling some traffic ...

well, i looked at this a while ago one a bunch of alternative health sites I was managing. Many people didnt by the looks of things, lol
Depends on the mis-spelling and how the serps look. I have a site that ranks #1 for hotels in Fetihye (http://www.google.com/search?q=hotels+in+Fetihye) and that gets about 4 of 5 hits a day. It ranks #9 for Hotels in Instanbul (http://www.google.com/search?num=50&hl=en&safe=active&q=hotels+in+Instanbul&btnG=Search) and that bring about 100 visitors a day.
I know Istanbul is a far more popular search, but the thing is though the Istanbul mis-spelling looks normal and most people will be happy to look through those serps I think.
Same applies for optimisation in my view, but it's not on that Google UK should classing "optimisation" as a mis-spelling. I just hit the "Dissatisfied? Help us improve" button. haha
Seriously though, I would go gor optimisation on the site but target both in the link campaign.

I had the same problem with the brand name of one of my customers. We ended up making a forum discussion, linked to an article and blog post on misspellings of the brand name and now rank #1 for most forms of misspellings as well. It has had a huge impact on our rankings as the brandname was an incorrect spelling of the english word people associate it with.
