I guess this could be old news for many of you, but I've just come across a search engine www.chacha.com that seems to offer human help with searches.

I ran a search and noticed "Search with Guide" button and this conversation started.

Status: Connecting ...
Status: Looking for a guide ...
Ring: ...
Status: Connected to guide: Richard(54200)
Richard(54200): Welcome to ChaCha!
Richard(54200): Hello, it's nice to talk to you today.
Richard(54200): What can I help you with today?

Long pause from me..... then;

You: Sorry I'm here for the first time
You: I wanted to find out about taking out an IVA
Richard(54200): no problem, I am here to help
Richard(54200): Please give me a minute to find that information for you.

Then a few SERPS results started appearing; my site was at #3.... :)

You: Those sites you've forund look pretty good thanks. Tell me, I don't mean to be rude... but are you a human or a bot?
Richard(54200): I am a human sitting at my destop in Florida talking to you and finding your information
Richard(54200): I hope this information helps you.
You: Oh I see. I help run a search engine discussion forum. Would you be interested in doing an interview, or are you busy?
Richard(54200): It has been a pleasure to help you.
You: haha I guess you are busy. The websites look great. Thanks for your help!
Richard(54200): Thanks, have a great day!
Richard(54200): Please RATE ME. Thanks for using ChaCha.
Status: Session ended.

So of course I gave him a "Great"! Give it a try it's kind of spooky and funny at the same time, I wonder what he'd say if I asked for nekkid pics of Hilary Clinton or something...

Just went to test this out and turns out the guide I had was an ex-South African and couldn't resist typing in Afrikaans, which he hasnt done in years

Think I made his day!

Anyway he gets paid to help searchers and does it part time.
Among the investors are Jeff Bezos (Amazon.com’s founder and CEO and Bezos Expeditions), Rod Canion (founding CEO of Compaq Computer), Jack Gill (silicon valley rockstar), and Don Aquilano (of Gazelle TechVentures).
