Hi,

France have launched Geoportal which only shows only France and French territories. Jacques Chirac says this places France at the forefront of new technologies. Whats pretty cool is it aparently zooms in to about 50 cm above the ground!

I was realy hoping to see for myself but unfortunatly it crashed soon after the launch due to a surge of connections and it looks like its still down.

Heres the URL anyway if any of you want to check it out when they're back up.

The question is, is who would seriously want to check out only france, other than potential tourists? :p

Hi,

LOL... thats exactly what USA said. I think its great for travelers/tourists. I know first hand how annoying it is to be stuck in a different country will a realy shoddy map. I don't think its necessary to have it zoom in so close to the ground - but its cool that they can do it.

Cheers, Koz

The French were peeved that Google's high resolution coverage of France only extended to some 25% of the country. The other thing is the French resent all things Anglo Saxon & successful in my view.

It's hilarious that the site still isn't working.. I mean it's only France after all... how many users and countries do Google have to serve?

Best laugh I've had in ages, but when do you guys think the South African government will create a similar server?

Cheers,
Paz.

Lol, that'll never happen, the hardware would probably go 'missing' or something XD
