What is the purpose for Google Sitemaps

Will creating a Google Sitemap and submitting it to Google increase my rankings?

Hi,

the idea was that people could submit their sitemaps so that Google could spider sites more efficiently and more quickly. When you update or add new pages, you can update the site map automatically and Google can come and spider the new pages without wasting resources and bandwidth.

That was the plan, but many people are luke warm about how it's worked in practice.

I'd use if for "catalog" sites with lots of product pages that use dynamic urls, or are having other problems getting indexed.

If your site has less than 100 pages, then I wouldn't bother with it though.
