Who needs Google?

Hi,

When doing single word searches in Google, I'm increasingly seeing the Wikipedia online encyclopedia in the top spot as the number one authoratitive search, so much so that I'm wondering if I should use Google at all for some searches.

Check out their entry for search engine optimisation (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Seo) to see what I mean.

If you're impressed, I'd recommend that you install the Wikipedia Firefox extension (http://mycroft.mozdev.org/quick/wikipedia.html) which adds it to the list of search engines available in the top right of the toolbar.

Even I am noticing Wikipedia at the top position, it seems that it content is quite good . Even we can reach to that position if we maintain and update our site content properly.

Google instead of your intranet portal. That means they do not integrate easily with your other Web documents, in terms of classification, indexing, permissions, etc. The API provided by Google will help there.

Wikipedia is not making any profit from the ads and all advertising stuff. recently if you seen the owner request to all the people to donate a bit as you can because they need some financial help to maintain the Wikipedia. I agree with the moderator that when ever we search for the word or phrases the first thing come up is Wikipedia but its not the meaning that if you are searching for a company then it shows the complete detail of the website like domain, inner pages, Facebook and twitter profile but Google can show every thing.

I think people trust wikipedia same and equal as Google. well both are effective in providing valueable information. Wikipedia is effective in history or for complicated definition or we can say that for complete knowledge of some thing any one can look for wikipedia.

Of course Wikipedia given more and more information about every thing with first pages position related to any things and also given information i deep about any topics but Wikipedia offers only information based non commercial services but Google given both commercial, Non commercial all types of services and information a lot.


I thing every one need and only need Google then after any others.
