just checked a bunch of the sites i manage, luckily none have dropped except one or two where one or two extremely high-ranking directories are above them :(
I've not seen it on any domains I'm following. Sounds like a glitch.
Cheers,
Paz.

Nothing here. But from an SEO perspective I am sure lots of people are trying to rank well for brand names as it can be fairly profitable.

I have seen this happening a lot in PPC, Affiliates sign up and bid on the brand, as its the cheapest traffic out there. Google will not put a stop to it unless the name is trademarked.

I was only looking at this yesterday for a client - they wanted to optimise for someone elses brand and I advised against it, telling them that it wasnt worth the effort. Maybe I'll take another look.

A hearty welcome to the forum!
Hi Yorganic,
Welcome to the forum!
As I understand it, some clients have "protected" names based on registered tardemarks so you'd have to be careful. Your clients could get spanked in Google if you bid on `coca cola` for example and I think there was a court case last year about this.
The problem we had was that our clients have company names that don't have any possibility of trade mark protection.
Cheers,
Paz.

Hey Yorganic
As i said earlier, there is nothing stopping you bidding on competitors brands, this can be a great way to bring your CPA down as this traffic is cheap and more than likely they are bidding on yours.
Unless this is trademarked, google will then stop competition bidding on the brand.

One of the good things in the engines of most of the search, like Google, is that if you have your website properly formatted and easy content crawled and indexed, their ranking as probably the first to investigate the own brand. Many businesses or website owners.
